THE STARTING POINT
Connect practice responses with clear guidance on what to try next.
Choose the learning evidence.
Identify what a practice task reveals about the learner’s understanding. A completed activity may show progress without demonstrating the intended skill. Describe the parts of the work that need feedback, and use these to decide what the learner should see after an attempt.
Make the response actionable.
Explain the gap between the current attempt and the task’s expectations using language appropriate to the audience. Offer a next step rather than only a score. Separate a hint from a completed answer so the feedback can support another attempt without removing the opportunity to practice.
Check the support path.
Decide when a learner should ask a teacher or mentor for help. Review examples with the people delivering the course and adjust feedback that is unclear. Include the expected response time and available support channels in the learning journey so students know what to do when guidance is not enough.
TAKE THE NEXT STEP
Your discovery checklist
- Identify the skill each activity should reveal.
- Give learners a specific next-attempt instruction.
