THE STARTING POINT

Turn workplace situations into scoped exercises with useful review criteria.

01

Choose a decision worth practicing.

Select a situation where the learner must interpret information or choose a next step. Describe the context and constraints without using confidential records. Keep the scenario focused enough to review, and make clear which responsibilities the learner is expected to take within it.

02

Include reasonable alternatives.

A useful scenario can allow several defensible approaches. Decide what makes an answer acceptable and where further explanation is needed. Give facilitators guidance on the reasoning to discuss rather than only one model response that learners are expected to repeat.

03

Debrief the reasoning.

Ask learners to explain their decisions and the information they relied on. Discuss what would change under different conditions. Close with a practical connection to the role, including when a learner should seek help rather than apply the scenario as a fixed rule to every situation.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Your discovery checklist

  • Choose a scoped decision with realistic constraints.
  • Define acceptable reasoning and alternative approaches.
  • Debrief when the learner should seek further help.
